NIECH ŻYJE WOJNA!!! / Long Live the War!!!
by Paweł Demirski

The production was inspired by the TV series “Four Tank men and a dog” (1966, dir. Konrad Nałęcki). However, Long Live the War!!! offers a new image of war, created in some opposition to the almost idyllic image presented on TV screen. The authors do not attempt to impose their own opinions nor versions of historical events, yet they try to claim some concealed, rejected, forgotten and manipulated parts of history.

***

. . . Strzępka and Demirski are right: war is repulsive, vulgar, carnal, and ugly. There is nothing lofty in it – it’s only slaughter, cunning, and rape. And then national fairytales, and heroic lies are being told about it all. Neither the good soldier Švejk, nor even Joseph Heller and his Catch 22, can be patrons of their performance; the authors seek their place in criticism of war in much stronger and vulgar way. . . . War is immoral in each moment, and glorifying one’s own compulsory and heroic participation in war is immoral too.
Wojna jest niemoralna w każdym momencie, wysławianie swojego przymusowego i bohaterskiego udziału w niej – również.
