POSING PROJECT B – THE ART OF SEDUCTION
"Posing Project B – The Art of Seduction" is one of three parts of Posing Project. In 2007 it received the Golden Lion for Best Performance at the Fifth International Contemporary Dance Festival during the Venice Biennale.
Chris Haring . . . has found bright, original and multi-faceted solutions to addressing the theme of the Biennale, Body & Eros. Using irony, he has mirrored and transformed the public perception of eroticism into a piece which displays our ubiquitous contemporary taste for exhibiting bodies. It is an organic work combining sound, text, lighting, costume, setting and a dynamic rhythm of construction. The immediacy of the choreography and interpretation gets under the skin in a subtle and complex way. The Art of Seduction – Posing Project B expresses a fresh vision for the future of dance (the prize motivation of the Venice Biennale Jury).
***
The pose has to be understood as basic material, this trembling moment when the body pauses, seemingly rests in itself, while an image already separates from its surface to end up in the eye of the beholder. The game of seduction is a complex one: you have to make the other believe that you have what he/she needs without rousing his/her suspicion in your personal interest to give what another wants. Or maybe you just need to be the most desirable object playing hard to get. Seduction wants to lead to a connection by the means of mutual misleading. It will not work without the intervention of a third party – the arrow of Eros.
